Local Library Dress-Up Event

Our local library hosted a costume/dress-up program for the kids last night. It was a 2-hr. long event with books being read in different rooms by very animated speakers (in costume, of course), a scavenger hunt, and various activities on every floor, in most of the rooms. There was also a cotton candy machine, and though the line was long, it was our first taste of it this summer, and well worth the wait. :)

Dressed up for the library event last night.
My son dressed up in a pirate costume and thoroughly enjoyed the craft tables and story rooms. Usually there are not a lot of people at our library, so I really didn't expect a big turn out. I was wrong, there were tons of people in attendance!! I guess a free activity night for the kiddos in the summer (in a safe environment) is always a good idea. :)

My daughter got into it a little bit too by painting around her eye. It turned out great (she even added a little glitter) but she didn't want me to post pictures... and so I shan't. ;)

The library is a great place to go for summer events and things to do. Our offers a reading program with prizes, movie days complete with popcorn and a drink, crafts, and a regularly scheduled story time. My 5-yr. old LOVES to go (even if there's nothing going on he wants to go), and I like to take him. :)

If you haven't utilized it as a source for keeping the kids entertained over Summer Break, I suggest giving it a whirl. Most events are free, and it's a great way to encourage summer reading.

  1. Enter, a wave of a memory when I used to take the kids to the library for all kinds of activities. Back then, no computers so we actually had to place ourselves in contact with other humans for social events. Imagine that!!!! Haha

  23. I'm a lifelong library lover. When our kids were growing up, our library wasn't doing much in the way of activities, but it's kinda neat nowadays to be in there during story time, and to hear kids laughing and having a good time.

  26. Sounds like fun! Our library is also hosting a summer reading program. My kids love it! Today we'll be heading to our local branch to go to storytime, and then later this afternoon we'll be going back there to see a magic show. Libraries are wonderful places, aren't they. :)

    Have a great Monday!

  29. That looks like so much fun! We have been to the library about once a week this summer, and it's something that Elliott really enjoys. I rarely check out books for myself, since I prefer reading on my kindle, but we certainly get a lot of use out of the library for kids stuff. If there was a library closer, we would probably utilize it even more (we drive 20 miles to go to the library).

  36. Oh, that looks like it was a lot of fun! Unfortunately, our local library is smaller and subjected to budget cuts so it is now only open Tue-Thu from 11 am to 7 pm and Sat from 9 am to 5 pm. They are still able to do some fun activities though and we have taken advantage of a few of their events, like the summer reading program and story times!
