Happy 4th of July!

If you celebrate the 4th of July, Happy Independence Day to you!! This is one of my favorite holidays.

We went into the city yesterday to celebrate (they did it a day early this year, not sure why).

I had the bright idea to get some take-out from Olive Garden and eat in the park so we could get there early and get great parking.  The second we got our food spread out and ready to eat on the picnic table, the clear sky turned gray and I knew what was going to happen.  We made it to the car just in time, and instead had a car-picnic in the pouring down rain. Definitely not as nice as the table outside, but it was an adventure. ;)

When we were done eating, the rain stopped as well, so we went out to the park to play...
That's a pirate face, and in case you can't tell, he's on a pirate ship!
and then down by the water to explore. My daughter's been raised around boys her whole life, and has a tendency to enjoy 'boy things' like frogs. I was raised very much a girly-girl and they scare me, a lot. Of course there were a ton of baby frogs by the water, there always are this time of year, and I forgot her tendency to want to pick them up (ugh).

In turn, she forgot my tendency to be terrified of them, and came towards me with an, "aww, look how cute" on her lips. My scream (an instant reaction) and immediate recoil reminded her, and the light in her eyes was priceless as she and her little brother (who just learned mom was scared of frogs) walked closer and closer, laughing and being general braaaaaaaaaaaaats. ;)  Thankfully, she's really a kind soul (whew) and put the frog back by the water.  I can't say the same for my little one who was all about the giggles and 'put it on mom' phrases. -_-

Besides that rare brush with fear, terror, and mom screaming, we had a great trip.

The rain left as fast as it came, and the rest of the night had perfect weather and some great fireworks too.

Today we're staying home and firing up the grill. I love when hubby does the cooking. :)

Happy 4th to you if you're celebrating, and happy Thursday if you're not. :)

Sorry it rained on your "parade." I saw the same funny thing last time I took Cody to the park. As we drove in the park, it began to rain. Then I passed 2 people sitting at a picnic table with their food all spread out and eating quietly in the rain. I laughed and thought, "now there's determination. Gonna have that picnic, or else." Hahaha
Good photos (as always)

We've been at our island for the last five nights and are now back in our slip at Willow Berm. Our dog cannot tolerate the fireworks that Hilton puts on at Mandiville Island so we always head back to the slip. Boats are still going out as I type. Our marina should be pretty quiet tonight. Here's a link: http://deltaboating.com/news3.htm

Dinner? Baby back ribs here.

Have a fabulous 4th. :)

I'm usually a girly girl, but I LOVE frog catching. I like the way the feel trying to jump out of your hands when they are trapped. Squishy lol!

Hope your cook out was delicious! I'm sure it was if you got to sit back and not do any of the work ;) Around here, I do all the cooking, even the grilling, so I never get a break!

Happy 4th of July!

Happy Fourth to you too! Your day really sounded like an adventure. We lucked out here in Florida, we had a beautiful day (no rain) and had a great time watching the fireworks at the beach and then went home and watched the Macy's Fireworks on TV.

I love the pic of big sister walking with little bro! Priceless, I haven't been able to get one like that with my boys and frankly I don't think it will ever happen so I will enjoy yours (my kids are like cold water and hot oil, lol) I was taught that if I touch a frog I will get warts..LOL..I know total nonsense..but it was my grandma's way of keeping me away from grabbing them and bringing them home, it worked and now I can't touch one at all..so I share your feeling hun! I hope you finally got to eat something on the 4th! Big Hug, Lizy

Your kids are so cute! I love how your girl likes to do "boy things" since she grew up around boys. I was kind of a girly girl (grew up around girls) but I'm getting more into the tomboy stuff now. I actually held a toad this spring! :)

It was a good day. :)

mail4rosey said...

It was nice. Glad you had a happy 4th, and hugs back. :)

mail4rosey said...

We weren't that determined. Soggy breadsticks do not a good dinner make. :)

mail4rosey said...

I know, it's ridiculous to be scared of a 1" little critter, but no bones about it, I'm a big chicken.

Homemade ice cream sounds great!

I looked at your link and that's a nice place to be!!! Sorry about your little one's ears. It's nice that you go back to the slip so the little doggie isn't miserable. We had a little one who didn't like loud noises when I was growing up too.

Glad you had a happy holiday!

mail4rosey said...

Thanks, Alissa. Glad you and your family had a nice day too. :)

My husband didn't fire up the grill until late either. I was almost resigned to do the cooking when he got up and went out to light the grill. I didn't cheer, but I wanted to. Cooking out makes a holiday more fun. :)

So glad I am in good company. I can't believe how many people are NOT afraid of them. :)

Sometimes I keep track. I haven't in years until yesterday when the flight attendant announced it was America's 237th BD. Wow, it really hasn't been that long so we should really appreciate our independence.

I just found this comment in my spam, and you're right, there was no frog in my throat, but if they'd have kept coming near me, I'd have been croaking. :)

So good to see you had such a nice time celebrating the 4th of July! I'm sorry you had to change plans a bit due to rain...somehow we managed to avoid it here.

I hope the rest of your weekend is a great one! :-)

Sounds like you had a great time. We went to see fireworks on the 4th and we ate in our car because if was way too hot to eat outside. Yes, we ran the car so we could have some air conditioning for a little bit.

mail4rosey said...

I don't usually eat salad dressing at all, but I LOVE their dressing.

Aww, I bet Piper had a cute little outfit for the 4th. They're so cute to dress up when they're so little!! Hope you had a great 4th too!

mail4rosey said...

The rain cooled things off here so that it was nice. Glad you got out and about for holiday fun too. :)

We had rain as well, but that didn't stop us from the parade and fun festivities. Sounds like you had a wonderful 4th even with a quick terror of froggies.

Haha! Sorry about the frog terror and the rain, but otherwise, the 4th sounded pretty fun! Hope you had a great time!
