FIFA World Cup 2014

Each year in March, hubby and I pack up the kids and take a fabulous Spring Break. We save a little here and there all year long to be able to take the vacation that appeals to us most. Next year, however, we will not be taking a family trip because my husband will instead be going on a trip with his friends.

Teaming up with a group of fellas he went to college with, one of whom moved to Brazil for business and lived there a good number of years, 'the boys' will be going to Sao Paulo in 2014 to see the World Cup. This is no small thing. In fact, if Brazil wins it could be one of the biggest celebrations of all time.

Though he and his friends have already rented property for the stay, and he will have an experienced guide (his friend who lived there), my husband still has a lot of questions:

What vaccinations, if any, does he need?
Will he need a Visa? And if yes, how does he apply and within what time frame?
What are the cultural norms that he should understand?

And those are just the TIP of the questions-to-be-asked iceberg. To better help him prepare for his trip, he read FIFA World Cup 2014 - Your Complete Guide to Brazil's Largest Soccer Celebration Since 1950.

Written by a native South American, and full of interactive maps (that can be used in real-time with your electronic device of choice), pdf's, charts, conversion tables and the like, it is a must have if you are taking the trip. Penned in a no-nonsense and very informative manner that was both pragmatic and very helpful, the book helped him to understand so much more than he could have ever even thought of his own.

FIFA World Cup 2014 covered the basic information expected/required from a travel book/guide and then kicked things up a notch or ten by offering the insight only a person living in the area would be able to provide. There were tips on where to stay, what to do, and a great history/background offered on each of the cities (and info. on the stadiums too) that will be hosting the games. Then there were safety tips, debunked myths, and actual facts about what one might want to watch out for, just to be on the safe side when traveling there for a visit. The writer has a great love of the area that was transparent in the writing. With 6 million visitors a year to the areas being discussed, it is certain his enthusiasm for Brazil and all it has to offer is not singular.

This is the must-have book if you're traveling to the games, but it's a viable option for traveling to the area, even if you won't be watching them. We've traveled quite a bit over the years, and hubby always picks out a travel book to bring along that he has examined and determined will be helpful. He does a good job with his selection(s) and I trust his judgment. For this book, he gave a 5 out of 5 for it being a good read.

You can pick up a copy of the book on Amazon.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good/useful for my readers.

    1. The guys seem pretty excited about it. I think the World Cup would be extraordinary to see, but I also like that they're going on a boy's trip. Not often you get to do that when you're grown and married (with kids). :)

    1. His friend invited us all, but since I can't go (previous commitment) and the other wives have been to Brazil, they made it a boys trip. They haven't had one since college, and believe me, that was a long time ago. ;) Pretty sure that alone will make it fun, the World Cup's going to make it amazing. :)
