A water hose and a phone because of course you have to tell your friends how you're washing the car...why, I'm not entirely certain (but I do know it's a necessity). |
Today she's outside trying to grab his attention, seeing if 'you look different' means, 'you look hot,' or whatever it is kids say these days that means the same thing. So since she was aimlessly hanging out in the front yard and blatantly looking like she was trying to grab his attention, eek, boys... I only like my own boys around my daughter, lol...I called her in and said, "Hey, since you're out there, you wanna wash my car?" She jumped at the chance.
Knowing I was on to a good thing (I'm trying to write to pay bills today), I pressed my good fortune with, "Do you want to take your little brother with you (who would, of course love to help)?"
"I don't care."
Woo hoo! Double score! I'm so loving this teen thing... just so long as "the boy" keeps not noticing her.
The best part, I think she's somewhat forgotten the boy...she's too busy laughing with/squirting her brother (who is delighted to be out there playing with her and the water, by the way). The worst part, if she's really forgotten about the boy, that's when he'll start to take notice. I remember how these things work, and as much as things change, some of them stay exactly the same. ;)
Smart move, Rosey :)
ReplyDeleteIf ever you have girls washing cars in your neighborhood... lolol hide your boys! ;)
Delete"As much as things change, some of them stay exactly the same"...so true, so true! This was fun, remembering when I was a teen, and when my girls were teens! :)
ReplyDeleteLove, Joy
Yesterfood
She's fun. And she did a great job on that car!! :)
DeleteSomething tells me you're going to be driving around in an immaculate car for the rest of the summer LMHO
ReplyDeleteMaybe you get some gardening chores in as well?
OXXO
There is a flower bed out there that could use a little extra attention. :)
DeleteOh you are going to have your hands full
ReplyDeleteWhew, I believe you. ;)
DeleteYou better get yourself a BIG LONG STICK. You are going to need it to beat those boys off. She is a cutie!
ReplyDeleteI've got a garage full of 'em (sticks, not boys). ;)
DeleteLOL... good... now learn to use them.
DeleteLOL...smart mom! The minute I saw the picture I knew something was up...like my mama used to say "sal quiere ese huevo" spanish for..."There's something rotten in Denmark" LOL there is always or most of the time an ulterior motive with teens. I should know..I have one right now, driving mom's little dirty Honda, because it's better in gas than his jeep...say what????lol at least little one is having a blast and you have a clean ride! way to go girl..ps....I how the subject in question (across the street) is not one of your blog followers..LOL Hugs!
ReplyDeletethat was...I hope...geez...I can't write to save my life!
DeleteThe boy across the street doesn't even know I have a blog. ;)
DeleteI remember that old saying!!! I totally forgot about it until now.
I want to go to Denmark. :) :) :) Totally off-topic, but I do!! ;)
The boys will soon come a knocking, one good thing about easy gun laws huh? lol
ReplyDeleteI spaced the kiddos out just right, didn't I (not on purpose, but hurrah anyway). Now the only boys in the house visiting are 5 or 6 yrs. old, hehehe
DeleteWhat a great idea - I have to think how I can use that. You have beautiful children Rosey! sandie
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sandie. Did you notice you can still see those tatts on my son's face? They're finally fading, woot (but they look worse fading than they did intact, lol)! ;)
DeleteYou did well getting both of them out of the house and getting your car washed too. You're right about the boy though. If you quit paying attention the boy will be interested. Nothing changes.
ReplyDeleteHave a terrific day. ☺
Too bad hubby wasn't home to get a free car wash too. :)
DeleteTerrific day to you too!
Love how you played that card!
ReplyDeleteSometimes I get lucky. ;)
DeleteThis is great how you turned it around! I'll have to remember this one. But what's the latest update--did the fella notice her again or not? Inquiring minds want to know Lol!
ReplyDeleteNo notice that I noticed. :)
DeleteIt sounds like it was a win win for everyone. So, did your daughter make any changes? Hair? Clothes? Makeup? If not, maybe he knows that she has a little crush and was teasing her a bit. That happened to me once. Actually it happened more than once. I was kinda boy crazy. :)
ReplyDeleteHer hair, maybe. It was red for a pretty long time (vegan hair dye) and now it's back to her natural blonde.
DeleteShe's a little boy crazy too. And about to start high school. e-yikes ;)
Boy thing to car wash. Now that's pretty smart!
ReplyDeleteShe did a good job too, the car's glistening clean. ;)
DeleteNow you definitely scored today :)
ReplyDeleteI know, but I'm taking her out somewhere tomorrow. No need to tempt fate. ;)
DeleteGood thinkin', Mom! Getting that car washed and having the kids happy doing it is quite an accomplishment! Your kids are both so cute that you'll have boys swarming around any day now and the girls will be chasing your son a few years down the road.
ReplyDeleteI've raised two teen boys...never a girl. I'm scared. A little. :)
DeleteAnd happy too. A lot (she's a sweetheart).
That's funny! It's a perk for her. Every guy likes a girl who isn't afraid of a little dirty work.
ReplyDeleteShe's def. not scared of a little dirt. ;)
Deleteha. sounds like everyone got what they wanted out of this one...you got a clean car, happy kids, and she might even have forgotten the boy...lol...
ReplyDeleteIf only, Brian. If only... ;) But you're right, I did get a clean car and happy kids. :)
DeleteScore! We don't have any boys in the neighborhood, so I don't think this trick will work with mine unfortunately lol :)
ReplyDeleteNo need to rub these things in, Theresa. It's just not nice. ;)
DeleteLOL ... I remember doing things to get a boys attention when I was her age. Sigh!

LOL because you'll be posting these things before you know it too. :) I have no idea how they grow up so fast, Lanaya.
DeleteYou're lucky if you keep getting things like the car washing done. See what else you can get done.
ReplyDeleteFlower beds, weedeater, windows... I could milk this (kidding). ;)
DeleteAnd my teenager is obsessed with what hairstyle he's going to wear to school. And I don't want to think what my two-year old girl will do when she grows up. Haaayy! Teens! ;o)
ReplyDeleteMy son went through the Justin Bieber hair in his face thing that was so popular...I always wanted to sweep it out of his eyes. ;) He's grown now and his hair looks fine. :)
DeleteI loved reading this post! You are brilliant! You got your car washed and created a great bonding experience for the kids. I wonder how long before she loses interest in said older boy :) until then - you'll have a squeaky clean car! :)
ReplyDeleteI hope she loses interest tomorrow, hahaha
DeleteThat boy drives & I'd be an instant bad guy because she wouldn't be allowed to visit or go anywhere with him (we don't even let our own kids who are grown and driving, drive the littles...well, we didn't for a long time, we do let the oldest now, but he's married and has a baby of his own). :)
Happy to see you!
You are so right that if she loses interest, he'll all the sudden take interest. Sheesh, the cycle of it all doesn't change! Good move on the car washing though!
ReplyDeleteBoys... eh, if only she'd listen to what I know. ;)
DeleteOmg..I suddenly remember being that age...you're right too, as much as things change....
ReplyDeleteI barely remember being that age... ;)
DeleteHi Rosy .. I think you've the right idea - but perhaps need a shorter memory term ... so you can forget the progression of youth!?
ReplyDeleteGreat having the car washed - now they've done yours could they come over and do mine please! Can't pay the travel - but am happy to provide lunch, drinks and a scout's tip!
Cheers Hilary
If only I could teach her all that I learned the hard way. Too bad it doesn't work out that way. ;)
DeleteIf we lived closer we'd come wash the car for free. :)
At least you got the car cleaned
ReplyDeleteA plus arrives in most every situation. ;)
DeleteLOL! This is so funny Rosey! In the process your car got washed!
ReplyDeleteMaybe she could paint the shutters today? :) I'm kidding, we're headed to town today, I don't want her chasing after any boys (so I'm going to keep her busy ;) ).
DeleteWe were never blessed with a daughter. That's probably a good thing -- I never did understand the female of our species.
ReplyDeleteI bet you'd have done just fine w/a girl too. :)
DeleteLOL even before I read the post, I was thinking, she's out there because of boys! Oh my, girls will be girls! :) Gotta love them. I know I did the same thing!
ReplyDelete"It's only 2 years, Mom," that's what she told me this morning when I told her that boy was too old for her. 2 yrs. may not mean a lot later in life, but right now it's as big as The Grand Canyon to me. ;)
Deleteyou are in for it.. just so you know ;)
ReplyDeleteI already know. *sigh* ;)
Deletei loved this, rosey! reminds me of my teenage years. oh man, i was boy crazy. lol. i love the photo of your daughter on the phone. :)
ReplyDeleteand how sweet of her to hang out with her little brother and let you get some things done!
i hope you're staying cool and having a great day! xoxox
maria
Baby girl's starting high school this year, unreal to me. She was Piper's size YESTERDAY! :)
DeleteWell played, mama, well played. I'm glad your daughter didn't use car-washing as an excuse to put on a bikini. THAT would've gotten the young man's attention, for sure, but not the kind of attention mama wants her baby to get.
ReplyDeleteSeveral of our grandchildren are in their teens, and you're right. Lots of things are the same as when I was a teen back in the Dark Ages, but lots of things are new, too. Cell phones and text messaging? Heck, we had a single five-pound rotary dial telephone... WITH a party line!
Yeah, if she'd have donned a bikini to wash the car I'd have been out there w/the cover up, lololol
DeleteI remember the days of trying to get boys attention...but I was too shy to talk to them, so it didn't make any difference anyway! LOL!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea for getting a clean car and keeping the kids busy! I may see if I can get my kids out there to work on the truck... :-)
Free labor from the kids, especially when they WANT to do it, is always a good thing. :)
DeleteReading this makes me glad that I had a boy! The scary thing is that this is probably only the beginning of the "boy troubles"! Good luck mom! But at least you have a clean car!
ReplyDeleteThat whole thing is difficult, boy or girl. It was so much easier when they were babies. :)
DeleteThat is how the murphy's law turns out though. Once she stops noticing him, then suddenly he will be noticing her :)
ReplyDeleteAhh but such fun that you got some good clean vehicle out of it all eh :)
Too fun!
I'm not digging the transition from wanting to hold mommy's hand to wanting to hold the boy across the street's hand. ;)
DeleteGreat thinking, Rosey!
ReplyDeleteBTW, I still see the tats on your son's face!
I know those darn tatts are resilient!!! :)
DeleteA car wash and free babysitting. Pretty much win win.
ReplyDeleteLOL, that was a double score moment, Lisa. :)
DeleteI had to take a double take. At first, I thought that was a picture of Drew Barrymore.
ReplyDeletehttp://joycelansky.blogspot.com/2013/07/wordless-wednesday-fine-print.html
Crossing my fingers she never gets that boy crazy (Barrymore was a wild child if I remember correctly). ;)
DeleteToo funny. At least you will have a nice clean car this summer! I have no desire to be a teenage girl again, so many emotions and drama :)
ReplyDeleteShe's a sweetheart. And the emotions/drama haven't changed all that much, I have to say, from when I was her age. I don't miss any of that either. ;)
DeleteAh, the joys of raising a teenager! That's a creative way to get her to wash the car!
