'Tis the Season (Amusement Park Season!)

It is no secret I love amusement parks. In fact, it's one of my favorite things about warm weather rolling around, and has been for as long as I can remember. Most of the time we head to one of our two favorites and because we like them so much, we never consider going anywhere else.

This is Shivering Timbers, the coaster hubby says I must 'experience.' ;)

Every year when we are discussing our plans though, my husband brings up Michigan's Adventure, an amusement park he loved when he was a boy.  He has seen some of the world's tallest and fastest roller coasters (and watched me and the kids ride the ones he was scared to ;) ), and swears Shivering Timbers is the best wooden roller coaster ever. Looking at in pictures does not do it justice, he says (though I think it is impressive in pictures). Oh no, it's more than what it looks like in a photo...it's an experience.

I believe him. And this year I'm going to find out firsthand when we surprise the kiddos with a mini-trip to the park.  Michigan's Adventure is the largest amusement and water park in the state with over 60 rides and attractions (including 7 roller coasters). It also has a section for just the little ones to enjoy. The water park has three wave pools, tube slides, body slides, the Funnel of Fear and a family play area. The best thing? You get admission to both for one low price ($29 per person, toddlers 2 and under free). I think that price can't be beat.

Catered events are also available at Michigan's Adventure. If you're looking for an employee event, or summer day out, it could be well worth checking into.

I'll do a write-up when we go. I'm looking forward to it, actually (the visit and the write-up). ;)

I'll be catching up with everyone when I get back from D.C., this is my long weekend to go see my new granddaughter (I'm leaving first thing in the morning...finally, woo hoo!!).

In the meantime, I'm wishing you all a fabulous weekend and wondering a couple of things:

Do you like to go to the amusement park? Do you ride the roller coasters when you go?

  2. hubby and I are talking about going back to Six Flags New England this summer as the last time we went my daughter was only a year old... she's 11 now and really wants to see what it's all about. I don't ride the coasters... hubby does, not sure if my daughter will muster up the courage to do so or be wimpy like mom. lol.

    1. 10 years is long enough to go without. :) I haven't been to Six Flags but my oldest and his wife have been and they enjoyed it. Looking forward to hearing if your daughter decides to ride or not if you go. :)

  3. Rosey, I can't remember the last time i went to an amusement park. My better half keeps threatening to make me go on a roller coaster but I'm too much of a scaredy cat for that! If you like thrills you should come to NZ and bungy jump etc. Cheers

  4. I haven't been to an amusement park and/or a water park in years. I didn't really think about it, but after reading this post and seeing your pictures, I want to go more than ever now.

And the best wooden roller coaster is The Screaming Eagle at Six Flags. LOVE IT!

  5. I love amusement parks! I'm a wimp when it comes to rides though, I think the scariest I have ever been on was The Hollywood Tower of Terror, yikes!!

  6. She's too precious Rosey ( what's her name? )
I haven't been to an amusement park in ages - but the first ride I always went on was the roller coaster ( my life has become one lately so don't need the mechanical ones anymore LMHO )

  10. I had anxiety just looking at that picture of the roller coaster. NO, I definitely do not like them. We do amusement parks a lot, though. Obviously we go to Disney every year and there are a few small scale parks up in NH that we go to yearly.

  14. Yay .. my sister is coming down this weekend and we are taking the kids to a big water park tomorrow. I used to love amusement parks too and I think I'll get back there when we get to take Rey to Disneyland for the first time.

  15. I do like to go to amusement parks with the kids. I love seeing them having so much fun. I would not go on a roller coaster. I am a big whip. Have a wonderful weekend visiting with your granddaughter!

  16. We are going to Michigan's Adventure this summer too. It's about a 2 hour drive from here, but we think it is totally worth it. We went a few years ago and do you know, it started RAINING when we got on that wooden coaster. Do you know how much it hurts when you are flying down those 5 humps getting smacked in the face with rain? Not a great experience then, so I am looking forward to riding it again when we go back this summer. Hopefully it will be nice and sunny then lol.

  20. There aren't any amusement parks around here. Two years ago we went to Disney World and Busch Gardens, but usually if we go, it's to Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri. It's within an hour drive from my parents' house, so it's the one that makes the most sense most of the time. We've already bought season passes for this year, and plan on going at least 4 or 5 times while we are in Missouri this summer! :)

  21. Your more likely to find me in the local sewer than you are a roller coaster. They scare me to death!
Thanks so much Rosey for supporting my new blog!

  25. I hope you're enjoying D.C. and visiting your granddaughter! :-)

I don't care for amusement parks and I don't ride rides. The most we do is the county fair rides...and I usually hold everybody's stuff when they go on the rides! LOL! I'll do the Ferris Wheel though! :-)

  26. I admit I'm a thrill seeker and I absolutely love roller coasters. The scarier, the better. :)

Your new granddaughter is just so adorable!! I bet you can't wait to hold her. Congrats! :)

  27. My daughter loves amusement parks more than I do :). I get so scared even when I'm just looking at a ferris wheel or roller coaster. I've never been on one, and I don't intend to :)
