ABCmouse.com (Review & Giveaway)

Disclosure: I received access to the website at no charge to better help me facilitate the review. No other form of compensation took place. All opinions stated are entirely my own.

Have you seen the commercials for ABCmouse.com? It is a full online curriculum for children aged preschool to Kindergarten and it's a really useful tool for helping engage the little ones in learning. It's also a good way to get them familiar with the computer and learning how to use it properly (for the younger ones anyway...I realize Kindergartner's have long since mastered all things technology). ;)

We have been using the program for a couple of weeks now and everyone likes it. Even the teen gets involved wanting to see the next lesson. There are lessons on letter, planets, matching, sounds, numbers, and so on and so forth.

The way they go about introducing each lesson lends to the pedagogical experience. What child isn't going to enjoy a series of letter videos that come across as mini-cartoons full of catchy songs and cute animation?

There are different places you can 'go' within the program. An example can be seen in the picture above, which is the home page for a 'visit' to the farm. As you can tell from the screenshot , there are many options to choose from when you are visiting somewhere. Each selection then offers you another complete set of lessons related to whatever it is you have pushed.

ABCmouse.com moves along with each lesson in order, and automatically tracks your progress as you go. You can go out of order if you want (if your child sees something he/she just has to try), and it will remind you nicely from time to time to go back to where you jumped ("Click Lesson One.").  There are over 700 lessons, so the activities stay fresh and fun, and won't lose the interest of your child.

One of my son's favorite features is when the mouse (mascot) issues you tickets for completing a job. He gets excited to see how many tickets he's going to be awarded.

There are a lot of little things about ABCmouse that make it special. You can tell a lot of thought went into creating the program to make it the best of the best. For example, when we signed on today it popped up a screen letting the kids know that today is the first day of summer, and then there were summer related activities added to today's lessons.

There really are so many areas to explore that even after a couple of weeks we are are just beginning to find what there is to explore. There are so many good things I can say about the program. It is a great way to help supplement the teaching you are giving your child. It is also a fun way to help keep them refreshed over the summer break (if they are already enrolled in school).

ABCmouse.com has earned a plethora of awards for their work, and after using it, it's easy to see why. We love our program, and my son asks to play it every single day.

  3. Sounds terrific. Our grandchildren have (and love) a whole mess of learning programs, but I don't know if they have this or not. It absolutely amazes me how adept they all are with a computer, even the two-year-olds.

  14. I am asking myself; now why do we have a school building and teachers there again? why? I swear computers are going to be the only method of teaching with the next twenty years.
