This Place is Like a Circus!

The circus is in town, but it's going to be in a fairly small, and solidly confined building, which makes me nervous. Is that dumb?  I know Noelle over at Jumpin Beans has been and loved it. In fact, her pictures of the event were awesome.

I've never been to a circus, but I know they have very large animals, and that even though I am a huge animal lover, sometimes things go wrong when they are involved.  If something were to go wrong in that building it could end up very not pretty.  Call me a worrywart, that's fine. Every once in a blue moon that statement is true.

The elementary school is touting it though, and the youngest tells us every single day that he wants to go. Hubby has no reservations at all, so I'm guessing it's going to be on an agenda soon.  I'm not really a lot nervous, just in-the-back-of-my-mind nervous., if that makes sense.

Have you been?

  1. I've been to the circus many times. Growing up, my parents always took us to Ringling Brothers in Boston, but I haven't taken my kids to that one yet. Just the small ones that come around.

  2. We went to the circus last week. In fact I wrote a blog post about it that I might post today.

I'm not a big fan of the circus at all. It just seems like too many things could go wrong. Elliott wanted to go, though (his school was just like your son's), and so did Daddy. I would have sent them by themselves if I could have, but unfortunately my husband had to work that night, so I had to go to bring Elliott home so Carl could make it to work on time.

We are big animal fans here, too, but that's what our zoo passes are for. ;)

  4. We live across the street from where they used to set up the circus. I loved it because I could see all the animals outside. It did get kind of noisy at ten at night when the circus was over and all the circus people would be sitting outside their trailers partying. You should go and enjoy it. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.

    1. Mischevious, there's that word again, lol.

Hopefully I won't think a thing about it once we're there. Still, I'm thinking the cheap seats in the back might be preferable to front liners, hehehe

    2. Yeah but in the back when they shoot people out of cannons the cannon could misfire and they could come right at you. The trampeze people could fly the wrong way and land on you, fire jugglers could set the whole place on fire, in a panic you could get crushed. A lion could get loose and look for dinner. A gorilla may give you fleas. You just never know hahaha Or you could just get stuck beside a guy who farts the whole time.

    3. I forgot about the cannons! LOL
Authors are always so inventive. -_-

And to think I encourage imagination in this house... ;)

  6. I think about those things too. The first Shamu show I saw at Sea World, the whale grabbed the trainer in his mouth, and took her down. We all thought it was part of the show, but when she got up, she really scrambled away, and got out of the water quickly. It was pretty shocking. Animals will do what they want to do, and I don't think any trainer has full control at any time. Sorry to make it worse for you!;)

    1. That would have scared me. I think there are plenty of cases of animals doing what they want despite wonderful training. And some of them at the circus are pretty big or have the potential to be ferocious, lol.

I saw a news headline today w/a toddler and a baby cub growing up playing/socializing together and I was alarmed. You just never know.

  7. When I was little the Shriner's put on a circus in our town every year or every other. We went all the time. It is fun to watch but a little sad all the same. The workers look tired and "hardened" if you know what I mean, and the animals spiritless. If you are afraid of clowns, a circus might not be the best place to go, but since I went as a kid, and the clowns did funny stuff, they have never bothered me.

Otherwise, I never felt threatened in any way by the animals. They have a lot to lose if things get out of hand so they make sure the viewers are kept safe.

    1. Aww, my mother-in-law won't go to anything that cages or displays the animals because she thinks it's sad. We do, but I do still think of it from time to time.

I imagine traveling all the time could take its toll on the workers, for sure.

  11. been to a circus before with my son rosey and it was fun, the venue was big though ♥

i suggest if you are kind of worried with the venue, whether being too confined or too small based on your judgement, then you might want to consider being seated close to an exit and if(when) something happens, you have a fast access to it...

I've been to the circus once. It wasn't something that hit me like wow, but I think the kids enjoyed it.
Maybe I'd have felt that 'thing' if I had seen one as a child.

We have that gut caution for a reason. It will be you and the hubs choice.

  17. I have been...once in Phoneix, AZ when I was visiting a friend. I liked it, actually. :) Though these days, I always wonder about how they really treat their animals since I'm such an animal lover and I've heard some not-so-good stories about animal practices in circuses in general. Alas, leave it to me to worry about such things, lol.

What a marvel it was. Everything happens for a reason good or bad & there's nothing you can do to change it. I predict you'll have a fabulous time if you just relax and let the fun and wonderful memories begin. happy Mother's Day!

    1. ah, that issue is so prevalent now you'd like to think it's no longer an issue, but I sadly doubt that is the case. I'm sure it makes it hard for those who really do treat their animals reputably. I felt silly the last time we went to the zoo because I felt that way about the bigger animals.

  40. My kids love the circus and go every year when it comes to town. You have a much larger chance of getting hit by a garbage truck than getting stampeded up a circus animal :) That is actually statistically true, you also have a greater chance of that than winning the lottery. Your car is the most dangerous place for anyone to be, which no one ever thinks about. The circus is much safer and it's a fun experience for kids. No worries, I promise :)
