Old School Blogging (Tag, I'm It)

Marriage and Babies

Lanaya at Raising Reagan [if you haven't seen her blog or her toy store (the link to her store is on my side bar), I encourage you to take a look, I think you'll love them both!] tagged me with her old school blogging post. 'Tag, you're it.' That's what she told me, so here we go. :)

She gave me six questions, and my answers are below.

1. How did your husband pop the big question?

We were outside watching the New Year's Eve fireworks and he got down on one knee with the ring.  It was very romantic. We were married in the court house, with no fan fair, and we still happily wear the three-ring wedding set that cost just a few hundred dollars.

2. What are the (3) most surprising things about married life?

a). The level of trust you place in one another. No matter how upset we might get about something regarding the other, that other person is still someone we ultimately trust with our heart, with our marriage, and with our family.

b). The boat rockers.  When something comes up that you don't both agree on...no, that you both VEHEMENTLY disagree on, it catches you by surprise. You work it out even if neither of you compromises how you feel, but it still surprises you that the boat isn't always anchored on calm waters.

c). Growing up. Somewhere along the way you grow up together and become the true adults and unit rock of the family. That's an amazing thing we're experiencing right now, and something I will always appreciate and not take for granted.

Whether younger and just visiting Michigan...

Or old and living in it, we''re a pretty good fit together. :)

3. How did you find out you were pregnant for the first time?

The stick on the third box of sticks I purchased (yeah, I was too anxious to wait the full time to test) had a plus sign. ;)

1988, days before the appearance of my first child. He's got one of his own on the way now, and I'll be a grandmama in May, woot!

4. How did you choose your baby's first name?

He was named after a family member.

5. Describe where you see yourself 10 yrs. from now.

Career-wise: A lot of you know I have my Ph.D. classes done and am working on my dissertation. In ten years I see myself utilizing that degree to its fullest. Something that takes so long to get had better be put to good use, yes? ;)

Familiy-wise: In ten years I will have children aged 35, 30, 24, and 15. I hope the first three are happy with all areas of their lives, and I hope the youngest will be happy and excelling in school. I enjoy watching the steps they take in life now, and am supposing that will be exactly the same, though circumstances will be different, ten years from now. I took time off to have have the last baby, so I won't be planning retirement then (I have catching up to do!) but I bet dad will be. ;)

6. Describe how you find bliss either with words or images.

The 4 kiddos, and my lovely daughter-in-law on the left.
Hubby and me on the right.

It seems so cliché I know, but to me, my family being happy, healthy, and secure in who they are and what path they're walking in life is what gives me my bliss.

So, that's it for my (6) questions.  Now I get to pick others to play along too, but in taking a great cue from Jen at The Adventures of Our Army Life, who also did this challenge, I'll let you grab it and run. If you'd like to blog about these six answers as they relate to you, please do and leave me a link. I'd love to come and read about it.

Thanks, Lanaya, for the tag. :)  Lanaya's story can be found here, and Jen's here.

AWESOME post! I remember when I thought I was first pregnant, I peed on the stick, but apparently didn't wait long enough and thought the test was broken so I ran out to get another. Once I took the second one and it did the same thing, I pulled the first one out of the trash and there was my positive. LOL. I'm wicked impatient.

I get so huge when I'm pregnant it makes me laugh. 50+ lbs. every time, Maria. It came off fast with the first two, not so fast with the second too (darned older age). ;)

mail4rosey said...

I was impatient too. I did the same thing w/the others too. :)

You guys have NOT aged one bit! I love that you put the picture-from-the-day photo at the beginning and then the one with the fam at the end! I also love that you opened this up for anyone to play along! Very sweet! And I LOVE Lanaya and Jen! They are super women!

Kenya G. Johnson said...

Love the pics Rosey! I see who little man REALLY looks like now ;-) Nice to meet the man behind the great woman. Congrats on finishing your classes!

mail4rosey said...

Lanaya and Jen are super women, I agree. :) This post reminded me that I have so many old pictures to scan. That's going to take foreeeeeeever, but I want to do it.

mail4rosey said...

Oh my gosh, he's a carbon copy, isn't it? When you have a picture of dad as a baby, next to little man as a baby it's really hard to tell them apart. I imagine just like you and Christoper. :)

I loved this story...

It is so funny how similar my answers would be :)
I through away my first pregnancy test in disgust because it was negative. An hour or so later I checked it again, still upset about the negative, only to find I had a faint positive :) YEH!

I admit, I so LOVE when bloggers share about their lives. It was really neat learning more about you and your family. Congrats on finishing the PhD classes. My best friend from college finished her dissertation last year and is enjoying the sweet bliss of freedom from it. :) Hehe. You're going to go far! And your family is too cute - everyone looks happy and that's what we all hope for: that our families are secure and happy. Kudos to you. xo

Theresa said...

I guess the others beat me to it, but you really haven't changed and neither has your dh! Can I have some of the fountain of youth water you've been drinking :) I also love getting to know more about my blogging friends. Great Post!

Mel@Mellywood's Mansion said...

I agree with the the growing up together, it feels like we have always been together and he is my best friend. On the other hand it is a surprise when you disagree strongly on something especially when it's to do with the kids. I didn't realise you had finished studying, well done on the phd Dr Rosie :)

Pride In Photos said...

That was so fun reading all about your past...what a fun game this is for the blog world!!!You two still look terrific!!!And your going to be a grandma in May...that is awesome!!

Liz @ A Nut in a Nutshell said...

This is so neat that you've been working so hard on advancing your degree! Woohoo for the future!

mail4rosey said...

Thank you for the nice words, Christy!

mail4rosey said...

Ah, that's so funny, I had the faint positive too (finally!). Impatient is good when baby news is looming, lol.

mail4rosey said...

A brand new shiny PhD would be such a relief, and congrats to your friend for getting it.

Thank you for the kind words, your video today was awesome too.

Betty Taylor said...

I really enjoyed your post! It is so much fun getting to know you!

mail4rosey said...

Ooohh, Theresa. I am guessing you would get carded if you tried to purchase alcohol. I'll take your ftn. of youth. ;)

mail4rosey said...

Not a Dr. yet, I'm done w/the classes but not the dissertation (the latter of which may see my hair turn gray and my bones turn brittle, lol).

mail4rosey said...

They say being a grandma is great, and you make it look awesome. I cannot wait!

mail4rosey said...

Woohoo for when I never have to think a second more about anything related to school. ;)

mail4rosey said...

Thanks, Betty. Lanaya (the gal who tagged me for this) said she'd never posted anything about her engagement, wedding, etc., and I don't think I had either until now.

Wow, 8 days!! I'm excited for you! If I know anything from how my own mom is with my daughter {their 1st grandchild}, then you will be one happy and awesome grandma!

Carla said...

You guys look great. I'm pretty sure my husband and I have aged more since we got married than you and your husband. And we've only been married for 8 years! :)

mail4rosey said...

Aging starts hitting fast once you're past 40. I am about used to finding a gray hair every once in awhile now.
