Oh Give Me a Home...(sing it with me!) #WW

Seriously, did we see what I think we just saw on the side of the street???

I had to turn the car around and go back for a better look

Turns out I wasn't the only one who was curious.  :)

I hope that fence is taller and sturdier than it looks, buffalo can jump fences 10 feet high and go right through a wooden fence!

Manzanita said...

Speaking of fences, you really need a super powerful one to keep those babies in.

That little fence was all they had, and it was next to the highway. Crazy stuff.

mail4rosey said...

I was very surprised it started coming towards me, and there's a busy street there, so I hurried up and drove off, not wanting him to come out.

Yes, definitely a wonderful specimen!

They have a buffalo farm in the next city over that my daughter wants us to go see this summer. I'm curious, and think we'll do it. :) Thanks for stopping by.

We have buffalos (or is it bison?) at our local zoo and I swear that my boys could stare at them for hours.

Such beautiful creatures aren't they??

There are a couple of different places I have seen buffalo. One is not all that far from us. Erie, Pa. They also have a restaurant there where you can get a Buffalo Burger.

I just couldn't believe it was buffalo, lol. I spent most of my adult years in Florida, there were certainly no buffalo!! :)

Wow. Those Buffalo are so huge. I've never seen one up close. The little calf is a curious cutie, but I wouldn't mess with her Mama! lol

Oh I love it! Finally someone got a shot of buffalo! We kept looking and looking for them when we did our cross-country road trip last summer, but apparently it was mating season so they were off doing their thing in privacy...heh! ;) Love your shots! :)

Omgosh Rosey! I'm glad you didn't get run down by one of those! I don't know how someone could keep buffalo with an inadequate fence!

Thanks for linking up :)

Aleksandra Nearing said...

I loved that song in elementary school. Thanks for the flashback :)

Kathryn Lavallee said...

Oh crazy! I wonder if they're just super tame and the owners figure the fence will suffice because of that! Would definitely be a surprising sight!

Theresa said...

Those things are massive! I'm surprised you had the cajones to go back and get some up close shots with that flimsy looking fence! You are much braver than me, my friend ;)

'Nosey Rosey'

I've always hated that it rhymes. ;)

We have a couple Buffalo (and Beefalo) farms by us. My son just noticed one of the farms for the first time the other day and was super excited to see real life buffalo!:-)

By the way, I'm sure you were perfectly safe taking pictures. Those electric fences don't look like much but work pretty well ;-)

My 18 year old used to sing this all the time when she was little because it was on Barney! She'd put on her cowgirl hat and gallop around singing Home, Home on Drange :)

Susan Cook said...

Super cool. The most I've seen is cows. I'd love to see some of those up close.

Happy WW :)

mail4rosey said...

I laugh when the little ones mix up song words like that, with my older three I corrected it, with my little guy I don't say a word because I know it'll be gone before I know it. :)

Winnie said...

I LOVE animals, but I've never actually been face-to-fact with this one. It looks quite frighting .....

There was a drive through park that had buffalo roaming around where I grew up. They are interesting creatures!

mail4rosey said...

Don't you hate that? I recently was the only one singing the Happy Birthday song at a party for my father-in-law, in a restaurant. -_-

OMG! You are lucky you had your camera with you! See, that's why it pays to have your camera with you at all times :o) Great captures! Hope you had a wonderful Wednesday!

That fence doesn't look sturdy enough for me to get that close lol

Veronica Lee said...

You'll see buffaloes (ours live near swamps) roaming in the 'kampong' (villages).

The song is stuck in my head too!

Where seldom is heard a discouraging word
And the skies are not cloudy all day

In the Cades Cove area of the Smoky's years ago, the park had a couple of buffalo in one of the fields. They were big beast, too. The fence could have easily been demolished by these animals, but they didn't seem to mind the human factor at all. It was amazing to come upon these creatures lazying under a huge shade tree. They seemed so out of place to me.

Well it had to happen...sooner or later winter blues was going to get to you and you were going to start stalking buffalo, bison, or very hairy bulls!!! lol...too funny...on the last shot seems like he was checking your intentions out too and getting ready to call the 5-0 on you! Ha. Love it!

I know, Lizy, it startled me that he was coming so close and I high-tailed it out of there. The highway was RIGHT behind me and I didn't want him to come out and get hurt (or hurt a car, lol). I had no idea until this post that they could jump so high. Crazy.

I think they look so prehistoric. We're going to see a lot of them this summer I think. We're going to South Dakota.

mail4rosey said...

I think that would be an awesome vacation!

My song goes..Give me a home among the gum trees, with lots of plum trees, a sheep or two and a Kangaroo. a veranda at the front, clothesline at the back and an old rocking chair...this is a very different scene for me :)

mail4rosey said...

LOL, I think it would be awesome to see kangaroo running around. When I lived in Florida, Vanilla Ice had a kangaroo that got loose, it was quiet the news at the time. ;)

mail4rosey said...

Buwahha, I'm glad it's not just me. My daughter thought I was being just ridiculous, hahahaha
