What I Really Want (to play my music on), is a Jukebox!

We've run the gamut of music formats in our home.  We started as kids with our parents/grandparents' 78's, 45's, and 33's and their 8-track tapes (anyone remember how pronounced the sound was when those tapes moved to a new track?). Then we moved to our own records and cassette tapes. The beauty of the latter was that you could record your own music (and if you got tired of the tape you could cover the holes on top of it and put something brand new on there), and eventually to CDs (yes, I was among those who paid a small fortune to buy the same music I already had all over again).

And then there was the iPod.  My kids got on that bandwagon WAY before I did, and then hubby did too.  When I finally got around to transferring all of my CDs to an iPod, it took a really long time to transfer them, and now I have 12,000 + songs on a small device that I know is going to eventually fail (it's electronic right? and all electronic things fail).  I do have the songs backed up on an external hard drive, but I'm terrible about keeping that updated when I download new songs.  And my iPod for the most part, goes untouched.

It's not that I don't love the music, I do, but I haven't quite got the hang of playing it.  I don't like to scroll around looking for another song when one is done, and am not overly fond of the playlist concept (I don't want the same songs in the same order all of the time).  Maybe there's a random genre button you can select from the menu, I dunno...  it just seems a bit tedious to me to find the songs I want to hear quickly.

So what I'm thinking, is give me a jukebox.  A juke box with all of my songs on it that I can see a playlist of, and push a button to play the song I want at will (or group of songs in the order I've selected them).  And make it portable (and pretty). And loud (so I don't have to be in the same room to hear it, if I want to meander around the house).

Do they even make such a thing?

Are you an iPod person?  If so, how do you navigate through those songs to see and select what you want quickly?

    1. Me too. I don't want one that's too big to move though, or that looks outdated, and I want it to hold my iPod music (and be a cinch to load). Not that I've given the details any thought or anything. ;)

    1. Being able to have the music on there or plug in the iPod and have it categorize on a screen would be great. I need an electronics guru in the family. ;)

  4. I would LOVE a jukebox too!! I'm a music lover...I have an mp3 player but only use it when running (which hasn't been for a while). My husband loves playlists and where I like them too, a jukebox sounds way more awesome! :) xoxox

  5. Exactly what I want! My old walkman for running is about to break, and I absolutely do not want an iPod. First, I can't stand anything in my ears, and I endure it during a run, and that's it. It must be my old swimmer's ears or something. Second, I'm just not sucked into the Apple stuff like everyone else. My husband had to get a new iPhone, and he bought a cover for it. From the packaging, it looked like really nice leather, and then you get it out to find the cheapest, thinnest plastic thing you can imagine for $50 bucks...terrible!

P.S. I agree with you on your Military Combat stance;)

    1. I don't like anything in my ears either. The stereo we have for the iPod is not loud like stereos back in the day...or maybe I just don't have a good one.

    1. I don't want a big one that's a pain to move, but the same concept in a condensed version (with the same quality of sound) for the iPod would be aweeeeeeeeesome. :)

  8. Yeah the ipods are good to use here and there when exercising and such. But searching through all the songs is a pain in the butt. I would love to have a jukebox too, I found one a while back like you described or close to it and it was 3 grand though, ouch haha

    1. Yeah, that's a lot steep. Still if I had it, and could spare it, it might be the one place I would gladly fork over the dough. I'm glad to hear someone makes them.

  9. I couldn't function without my ipod. I need music to clean to, craft to, and to work out to. I used to have thousands of songs on mine, but found myself skipping quite a few to get to the good ones. I did a complete overhaul on my playlist and only kept the songs that I really love. That way, no more wasted time skipping until I hear something that I want to listen to!

  10. A jukebox would be amazing! I don't have an iPod, but I've always wanted one. I have a hard time splurging for tech products so I keep putting it off.

  12. I haven't gotten an iPod yet and can't decide if I want one. I wouldn't like searching for the song I wanted to listen to. At home, I'm on the computer a lot (too much) and just listen to music on YouTube in another window. It's not a perfect solution, but works okay for now. I have CD's but too often I have to listen to music I don't particularly like to get to the songs I do like.

  13. We've never bought an iPod. My sister gave me her old one and I used it rarely. I like to either listen to the radio, or pop a CD in my Bose radio. (Even CD's are considered "old hat"!)If I am walking for exercise, I will just put on Pandora. A jukebox would be pretty cool though as far as having a catalog of your collection of music.

  18. LOL! I would much prefer a jukebox than an iPod. They do make them still. I saw one at a retro store in Tamworth. It was brand new but retro looking, really nice!

    1. That's the only place we could put something that big, in our basement, but I'd want it on the main floor (of course I'd want one that would totally blend in because you know, I don't ask for much ;)).

  22. I haven't seen a jukebox around in years, but I am sure they still sell them somewhere. I bet they cost a pretty penny, though.

  23. Please don't get such a large contraption! LOL! I am sure you could find one if you really want one. They've probably been remade. We've seen them in diner's that have the back in the day look. I rarely play any of my CDs anymore and I only listen to "my music" from the iPhone when I am walking. I've started listening to Pandora. It's free and its is a digital jukebox. You can put in an artists name and it will play that artist and like music. This morning I was in the mood for piano. I wrote down the name Scott D. Davis when I saw a song come up that I like. So now i have a Scott D. Davis radio station saved on Pandora. Love it! I only use Pandora at home under wifi.

  24. I won an ipod once.
It's not something I'd buy. I do not like to hear what's going on around me, especially with children being around.

I prefer hearing the music somewhere so I can tune it out if I want to. My ipod is in my ears.

Well it has a lot of my music and in no order either so they just play it all.

But I gotta agree with you! I want a jukebox :)
Of course I have no idea if they still make those, but I assume there are programs that would fulfill such a desire. afterall they do still have dance clubs :)

    1. Winning an iPod is nice! I actually splurged for mine...so it's a shame that it doesn't get used more. Someday I will find a way that makes it easier to hear what I want, when I want. :)

  25. We all have MP3 players, but not IPods. My husband is the only one that uses his, though. He uses it at the gym, and occasionally plugs it in and listens to it in the car.

Elliott and I use my computer, my Kindle Fire, or my phone to listen to music most of the time. Most of it is still stuff we've downloaded, but we apparently have a hard enough time keeping phones and the Kindle charged, so our MP3 players are usually dead. :) We still use CD's in the car, and Elliott uses his CD player in his room a lot more often than he uses his MP3 player.

We use Pandora and Youtube sometimes, too, but most of the music we listen to is stuff that we've either bought and dowloaded, or ripped from our CD's.
