We've run the gamut of music formats in our home. We started as kids with our parents/grandparents' 78's, 45's, and 33's and their 8-track tapes (anyone remember how pronounced the sound was when those tapes moved to a new track?). Then we moved to our own records and cassette tapes. The beauty of the latter was that you could record your own music (and if you got tired of the tape you could cover the holes on top of it and put something brand new on there), and eventually to CDs (yes, I was among those who paid a small fortune to buy the same music I already had all over again).
And then there was the iPod. My kids got on that bandwagon WAY before I did, and then hubby did too. When I finally got around to transferring all of my CDs to an iPod, it took a really long time to transfer them, and now I have 12,000 + songs on a small device that I know is going to eventually fail (it's electronic right? and all electronic things fail). I do have the songs backed up on an external hard drive, but I'm terrible about keeping that updated when I download new songs. And my iPod for the most part, goes untouched.
It's not that I don't love the music, I do, but I haven't quite got the hang of playing it. I don't like to scroll around looking for another song when one is done, and am not overly fond of the playlist concept (I don't want the same songs in the same order all of the time). Maybe there's a random genre button you can select from the menu, I dunno... it just seems a bit tedious to me to find the songs I want to hear quickly.
So what I'm thinking, is give me a jukebox. A juke box with all of my songs on it that I can see a playlist of, and push a button to play the song I want at will (or group of songs in the order I've selected them). And make it portable (and pretty). And loud (so I don't have to be in the same room to hear it, if I want to meander around the house).
Do they even make such a thing?
Are you an iPod person? If so, how do you navigate through those songs to see and select what you want quickly?
