Movies, Movies, Movies

The Oscars are a big deal. Many people love to watch, and the time leading up to them is filled with a lot of merriment, fun, and celebration.  The movies, however, are usually not of interest to me... not even the movie that wins the big one. Nothing against cinema, I like it, and we do go from time to time, though more times than not I end up with the youngest in a children's movies while the rest of the family gets to see the more grown up ones. 98% of the time, I don't mind (I actually like kid movies).  There were a couple of movies I missed though, that I would have liked to have seen in the theater...J. Edgar from 2011, and Lincoln, from 2012 come to mind. I have yet to see either, but I'm sure I'll get to see them on video at some point.

This year, however, the award has had the opposite affect on me.  I didn't watch the Oscars, but I did follow them a little bit in the news.  Before the winning announcements were made, I had zero interest in Ben Affleck's Argo.  Now I really want to see it.

Movie nights are fun, but there's so much of an age difference between each of my children, that's it's not something we do too often.  There are rare instances, however, when I'll leave the kids at home (with dad) and go on my own, and Argo might end up being one of them.  It's still playing in one theater sort of close to us...we'll see. It's probably more likely that I'll end up renting it on video.

Have you seen it, and if so did you like it?  Any interest in seeing it if you haven't yet? Or is there another movie that was out you saw and loved, or one you missed entirely that you wanted to see?  Are you big movie goers?  Have I asked too many questions??   :)

  2. my husband really wants to see Argo too. i think it looks good, but my friend told me it is a little slow at parts (and she knows i lose interest at that point sometimes) :) we watch a ton of movies but more so from home. we go to the movies every now and then but there's something so comfy about watching them in the comfort of your own home. i'm with ya on the oscars. i don't get that into the movies they showcase.
i hope you have a wonderful day!

  7. I haven't seen Argo, and I have no desire to, either. It just doesn't look like anything that would hold my interest. I wasn't interested in seeing Lincoln, either. I guess I am lame lol.

  8. Wow! I'd only recently heard of Argo - I guess because of the Oscar buzz but I had no idea what it was about. I want to see it now. Like you, movies in or out are something all three of us can watch. So my husband and I have missed a lot. I can't think of anything I want to see because I don't know what's out ;-)

  13. I am with you on most of the movies we see are kids movies in the theater. I think the last non cartoonish movie we saw was The Hunger Games. I would have loved to have seen Lincoln and Zero Dark Thirty in the theater.

I have been wanting to see Argo, but have it saved to my blockbuster by mail list for when it comes out on dvd. Mainly because I really like Ben Afflec though ;)

  14. I'd like to see Argo and the another one whose name escapes me at the moment...Life of PI? Something like that. LOL! It looked interesting. Anyway, we usually don't see a movie until it comes out on DVD. Too much talking and stuff in theaters to put up with.

  17. Hi Rosey! We have movie nights on the weekends and it's always some kid movie. I like them, but once in while I'd like to see some more-adult type movies like Argo and Lincoln. I didn't see any of these. I would like to see that other movie with Jennifer Lawrence too....something Playbook. I actually love a good movie and I should take more time to watch them.

  18. Hubby and I don't make it out to the movies much these days either. A--tickets are too expensive, B--snacks are outrageously priced ($5 for a soda....no thanks), C--we like to snuggle and lay around in our pjs and I doubt people would want to see us doing that in the theaters haha. So we usually wait for the Redbox releases :)

  22. I haven't seen it. Didn't even know there was such a movie. I don't follow the Oscars.
And we never go to a movie. It's a rarity.

But I watch movies from our library and they are free and I don't have to dress up :)

    I hope it's a good one!

  23. A lot of people in my state are talking about Argo since Jennifer Garner (Ben Affleck's Wife) is from WV :) They come home to visit often and appear to be very nice people.

  24. We go to movies pretty frequently, but like you, they are almost always children's movies. Since my sister lives with us now, we've been to a lot more grown up movies in the last year, but it's still probably just been five or six. Argo would have been one of them if it had come to the theater in our area. My husband and I both really wanted to see it.

We did preorder it and watched it when it first came out on Blu Ray. We both liked it pretty well. We are both pretty easy to please when it comes to movies, though.

Some years we've seen the majority of the movies that are nominated at the Oscars (but usually most of them are watched at home, so it depends on when they come out), but this year was definitely not one of them. I think we had seen all the animated ones, but that was just about it.
