Worldess Wednesday: Scenes from Yesteryear

Pumpkin patches are the perfect place to display old equipment:

My grandmother on my mom's side had an old wringer-washer in her house for years (and she used it every single week!).

Yep, that's Starbucks...not something we regularly indulge in (his is hot chocolate), but I wanted to try the Pumpkin Latte everyone's been raving about, and the store was on the way.  And I did (try it).

Country Inn & Suites Giveaway

We found out about this great chain of hotels on accident, sort of... Before we had a generator, the power went out during a storm in the middle of winter.  We roughed it the first night thinking it'd be on again soon, but found out when calling the electric company that it was going to be a couple of days.  We decided to go to a hotel, and the first one we passed was Country Inn & Suites.  We checked in and loved it, and it's always one of the first hotels we check for now, when we're looking to make travel reservations.

Fall is the perfect time to get away- great weather, not too hot or buggy, the beautiful fall foliage, and fall foods are some of my personal favorites. I love long weekends this time of year, and highly recommend grabbing the spouse and kids, hitting the road, and finding an interesting destination. One thing you never want to worry about when you travel, is the sort of hotel you will wind up staying in. It can be hard to book online- so many places "fluff" the reviews by having friends and family members post positive ones, and people generally only post ratings on hotels if they loved it or truly hated it. Sometimes I read them and am amazed at the crazy things people will write about.

It can sometimes be simpler to stick with a hotel brand that you know, like Country Inn and Suites. I would venture to say that no matter where you plan to stay, there will be a location nearby (even out of the USA, they have quite a presence). More then once, I have ended up in a hotel that wasn't really up to standard.  I can honestly say I have never been disappointed in a stay with Country Inn and Suites. Great breakfasts, and many of the hotels even offer free cookies, drinks, and popcorn in the evening.

  O

One of you can win the chance to do some free fall traveling on your own- win 4 free nights at a Country Inn and Suites of your choice. Please see below to win, and for rules and entry options. Good luck! 1- Each free night voucher is valid for one free night, standard room, double occupancy at any North American Country Inns and Suites of the winner’s choice. The voucher expires one year after the issue date. The full terms and conditions are located on the room night voucher. 2- Entrants need to reside in the US or Canada and must be at least 18 years old. This is a part of Country Inn and Suites Free Night Fall promotion, where you can have an opportunity to win an additional free night in their giveaway. Unaccounted for Surprises

Well...you just never know where life's unaccounted for surprises are going to turn up.  Yesterday, I had two:

Surprise #1
My toddler got into his big brother's cologne while I was occupied elsewhere in the house (that's not the surprise).  I knew I was in trouble when the smell started wafting through the house in an overwhelming dose that compelled me to turn off the heater and open all of the windows in the house, even though it was cold outside.  Upon investigation, it turned out he'd sprayed it on the door to the towel cabinet, on the towels, on the shower curtain, on the bathroom door, and well, you get the idea.  So it was time to give him a shower (in a different bathroom that didn't smell like a perfume factory).

I got his clothes, put them on my bed, and put him in my shower.

When I was done scrubbing him down, I went to open the door (didn't even realize I locked the door when we were in the bathroom if no one was home...I realize it now).

Surprise number one came in the form of the door not opening.  The lock on the handle spun, just like it's supposed to, to unlock the door...but the lock wouldn't budge from inside of the wall.  Uh oh.  I didn't have a phone in there, no one was home, and my son didn't have any clothes (I ended up putting the cologne-soaked ones back on him to keep him warm).  We tried to no avail, everything we knew to get out of that bathroom.  With no tools though, we were pretty much out of luck.

To top it off...hubby's car has been overheating, and he told me early that morning to be on alert in case it broke down, so we could come and get him (we're dropping it off to be fixed later today).  You have no idea how much I was hoping that every phone call that came in was NOT him calling to get a rescue.

We were in that bathroom for hours.

Surprise #2
After my son cried (just a little) and got over being a bit scared, we settled in.  Surprise #2 came in the form of us having a good time.  We practiced letter writing (in the air), talked about his school day, counted the lines on our feet (LOL!), and discussed just about everything we could think of...and it was fun.

What a super huge, awesome blessing to get to spend that amount of completely one-on-one time with my son. Who gets to do that, really?  And I loved it.

We were sure glad though, when dad got home and after retrieving a tool or two, got us out of that bathroom (thanks hubby!), and then found ourselves really, really wanting to get out of the house (despite it being time to make dinner).  So...to treat ourselves after our unusual dilemma, my son and I went out for subs (Jimi John's rocks our world), and did a bit of shopping.  I got the camera I have been needing, and he got a Darth Vader mask he's been eyeballing).

So...all is well that ends well, and the moral of the story?  You just never know where you're going to find your blessings.  Who knew we would find ours in the bathroom yesterday.  Three cheers (this time), for unaccounted for surprises.

Happy weekend everyone!

D-Link Home Network Camera Giveaway

Today I'm reviewing the D-Link DCS-932L Wireless N Day/Night Home Network Camera, and I have to tell you, I love it.  I've never been much of a 'techie person' (though I am working on that a little bit more these days), and even I could handle this set-up.  I have to say also...that while this camera definitely has a lot of potential uses, it's also...well, fun!

It's easy enough to set up, right out of the box.  With do-it-yourself installation it's as easy as unpacking the box, putting the software (CD) in your computer, and going through the Run Wizard (for Windows or Mac).  Then the fun begins.  The camera works with an Ethernet cable, or wirelessly, and the web server is built right into the camera (which means you don't have to have it hooked up to your computer, after the initial set-up) for it work.  The camera also has infrared built in so you can survey in daylight, artificial light, or in the darkest of the night.  Our home is in the country, and in the broad daylight we get deer, turkeys, cranes, little critters, and the like, walking through our yard at will.  I have always wondered what kinds of critters are running around out there at night, and soon we're going to find out.  :)

You can use this D-Link Cloud Camera for a myriad of reasons...some that come to mind are watching the baby sleep, looking in on the house while you're on vacation, keeping an eye on the toddlers who are in another room, watching who comes through the entryway of your home, looking at the outside of your house while you're inside or away from home, and so on and so forth.  The camera also has audio, so you can hear what's going on if you want to, in addition to seeing it.

There are many advanced options that you can utilize from the software if you choose to, including one feature I found on their website that I think is really cool, which is the split screen feature...meaning if you have more than one camera set up, you can survey them all at once on one screen (awesome!). You can also opt for instant email notification, which is another advanced feature you can select that I thought was ideal.

When it's time to view whatever you have under surveillance, you can look on the mydlink website, your laptop, Tablet, Android phone, or iPhone.  It has a VGA (640 x 480) resolution, which allows for a clear picture to show up on your mobile devices; and if you want to utilize it, there is a 4x digital zoom that allows you to get a closer look, if you want one.

So...I'm thinking this D-Link DCS-932L Cloud camera would be a GREAT gift idea (it's unique, fun, useful, and probably unexpected, but so many people would love it!).  You can buy one here, purchase it at online retailers (such as Amazon), or find a retailer here.

You can also check out D-Link more by viewing their website.  Or you can follow them on Facebook, Twitter, Linked in, and/or YouTube.

Now on to the giveaway... D-Link (thank you, D-Link!!) has offered to give the same camera I reviewed to one lucky Mail4Rosey reader!

This giveaway will only run for two weeks, so be sure to get your entry in!  Like I said above, this would be a great gift idea, but I think once you take a look at it and do a little research on it (and see how easy it is to use!), there is a good chance that you're going to want to keep it for yourself!

Please enter on the Rafflecopter below, and good luck!

What Constitutes a "Collection?"

I love a nice, hearty coffee mug!

And Christmas ornaments are my weakness

I'm not really a collector.  I get a treasure here & there from different places we visit from time-to-time, and of course, anything the kids make becomes instant gold.  But I don't really collect anything.  There is something I do like to get though, and that is a nice mug for coffee.  In most of the places we go that we consider special, I'll pick one up (Mackinac Island, Cedar Point, Disney World, different cities in the US and abroad, etc.).  There are others I have that I like quite a bit too.  My mother-in-law brought me some really great mugs w/stripes recently that I love, and I have some I've made at Shutterfly w/pictures of the family on them that are personal favorites.

I wish I had my camera...it's broken (if you missed that story, you can find it here & I still don't have a replacement...for the time being I'm using a disposable, ugh) so I could take a picture of a group of my favorites, but nonetheless, you get the idea, I'm sure.

Christmas ornaments are another thing I really like, and those could maybe be classified as a collection.  Again, if we go somewhere we think is special, we're sure to pick one up, and we love them.  We will probably never have a beautiful themed tree because everyone in the family (including me) would miss the vast assortment of ornaments it is tradition for us to hang.  We have years of memories up there.  Hubby and I even have some from when we were kids, and let me tell you, that's going waaaaay back. ;)

How about you?  Anything you like to get that is special to you, but you don't really consider it as "collecting?"

Shutterfly Halloween Photo Contest (Facebook)

Shutterfly has a new Halloween photo contest (Facebook) going on here.

I entered, and you can vote for it here if you like it, but don't worry about it if you're not into voting.  It's hard to win an online voting contest, so I'm not in the least anticipatory of the big win (which is a family trip to Great Wolf Lodge, so if you are very connected, it's worth trying the vote route).  The good news though, is everyone who enters will get a little prize!  If you're a Shutterfly buff like me, any prize from them is a delight, plus it's fun.  :)

Good luck all!

Now is the Time to Buy Summer Toys

Ever notice a good number of the coolest toys need major assembly?  Toy kitchens, ride-in cars, ride-on cars, and so on and so forth.  That's aside from the point I'm making today, but isn't it so true?

(Forgive the glare, I couldn't prevent it).

On to the point....

Quite some time ago, we won a Little Tikes Sandy Lagoon Waterpark from the awesome blog being run at The Bragging Mommy (forgive the glare in the picture, I couldn't prevent it), and though I meant to give it to my son, a good friend of ours has three little ones with birthdays all around the same time, so we gifted it to them.  It was SUCH a hit, with them, and my son when visiting, that I got one for my little man too.

If you live in a seasonal area, and know anyone in a warm area with kiddos, or are the kind of person who shops way ahead of time and stores the items until later (I'm raising my hand here), now is the time to get summer toys.   The clearance prices on even the most expensive of summer fun items is phenomenally low right now (because really, who needs them in the winter?).

So...the next time you're out shopping, check those clearance lanes, look at the seasonal section, and get ready to save.  And if you know someone with kiddos who lives in year-round warm weather, even better...you can shop for their holiday gifts now and save a bundle!  In the long run, the savings if you buy today is totally worth it... and that is true even if the toys do come with 'some assembly required.'  :)

Jewelry Candles Giveaway (one candle winner, one jewelry winner)

Giveaway done by: Elitemama

I'm sure by now you've noticed the popularity of these candles!  This is definitely the 'it' item of the season in terms of home decorating and fragrance (and it'd make an ideal gift for the bazillion parties about to start for the upcoming holiday season that runs from now until New Year's).  I am happy to be taking part in this giveaway, and though the review that was written below was not done by me, but I do think it's a good one!  I hope you'll join in for this giveaway (enter to win today!), it's going to be a fun one!

Hey everyone and welcome to another great Jewelry Candles giveaway. Jewelry Candles was inspired off of the classic movie "Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory". Inside the movie, very few won a prize when the opened their chocolate bar to reveal a golden ticket. With Jewelry Candles, everyone is a winner. You can find yourself a gorgeous piece of jewelry that is worth any where from $10 to $7,500. You might find a ring, necklace, a pair of earrings, pendant, anklet or even a bracelet.

The candles are made with all natural soy and premium quality scents. They are 21oz and burn anywhere from 110 to 150 hours. There are so many scents to choose from!!!

Now, if you haven't tried Jewelry Candles, it is a must! Not only for the jewelry, but for the scents as well. They have so many candles out now it's crazy. When Jewelry Candles first started they had about 18 scents at the time, now they have well over 30 scents to choose from. I was given the opportunity to review another amazing candle from Jewelry Candles. The candle I reviewed was the Banana Nut Bread candle.

The picture above shows you what the candle looks like, the wicks and the candle lit. Jewelry Candles is the only candle that I know of that has two wicks. Normally you would see one in a candle and a lot of the times the candles don't burn evenly. Having two wicks in the candle ensures you that you will get the even burn you seek in a candle. As for the scent, it is scrumptious. At first I was iffy about giving the Banana Nut Bread candle a shot because of the scent. I wondered if it would come out smelling like the actual bread baking.
Oh Boy! The candle is true to its scent. Just lite the candle, let it burn for a while, walk away and then walk back into the room and BAM! Your senses are hit with a delicious aroma making you want that mouth watering banana bread. Only to realize.... it's a candle.

Alrighty! Well, I let the candle burn for about an hour and a half or so and the foil was revealed. Didn't take very long because the jewel was close to the top. So I grabbed my tweezers, scissors and some paper towels. I pulled the foil out, wiped off any wax that was on it, unwrapped and revealed a lovely ring inside. I tried getting the best picture I would of the ring, but taking a picture with a cell phone camera is pretty eh.

Here is the ring in front of the Jewelry Candle. There is a center diamond there are diamonds circling around it. It's a $10 ring, but I'm not complaining. It's a gorgeous ring and it's a size 7 or so. Also, the jewelry is great quality. I have not had any problems with the jewelry what so ever and I am extremely sensitive to jewelry. I love my candle and my ring as well!

Check out Jewelry Candles and get yourself one of these lovely candles

Enter to win!
There are 2 winners. One will receive a mystery candle and the other will receive a mystery jewel from Jewelry Candles. Open to the US only. Must be 18 years and older to enter. Giveaway begins 10/23 and ends 11/6. Enter the rafflecopter form below.

From Walt Disney Animation Studios and Emmy®-winning director Rich Moore comes “Wreck-It Ralph,” a hilarious, arcade-game-hopping adventure. For decades, Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly) has been overshadowed by Fix-It Felix, Jr. (voice of Jack McBrayer), the good-guy star of their game who always gets to save the day. Tired of playing the role of a bad guy, Ralph takes matters into his own massive hands and sets off on a journey across the arcade through multiple generations of video games to prove he’s got what it takes to be a hero.

On his quest, Ralph meets tough-as-nails Sergeant Calhoun (voice of Jane Lynch) from the first-person action game Hero’s Duty, and feisty misfit Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Sarah Silverman) from the candy-coated cart-racing game Sugar Rush, who may just be his first real friend. But everything changes when a deadly enemy is unleashed, threatening the entire arcade and Vanellope herself. Ralph finally gets his chance to save the day—but can he do it in time? “Wreck-It Ralph” crashes onto the big screen on November 2, 2012, in Disney Digital 3D™ in select theaters.

OFFICIAL BOILERPLATE:

Rated PG by the MPAA, “Wreck-It Ralph” crashes onto the big screen on November 2, 2012, in Disney Digital 3D™ in select theaters.
