Do you Cirque?

I know a few people who never miss a Cirque Du Soleil show if it's in their area (and I know one person who will travel to go see them).  Recently, my husband's aunt picked up tickets for us to go see a holiday-themed Cirque.  Hurrah!  Hubby and I have never seen a show, but we've both been curious.

There were penguins that danced, a couple who could change clothes in half a second flat (hubby said if that gal could do it, I could do it -_- ), people balancing on one another's head, and two fellas jauntily balancing on a flat board resting on top of a ball...which of course wasn't good enough, and they had to add not one, not two, but three more tables to the balancing act (crazy stuff, that).  And there was singing, dancing, ice skating, and acrobatics.

It ended up being nice, and the kids there just loved it, including our youngest who sat perfectly still, mesmerized by the show for the entire performance.

After the show we took a walk around the facility where the show took place, and it was just fabulous.  There was a fireplace the size of a wall when you walked in, with seating right in front of it so you could warm up or wait for the rest of your party to arrive.  Of course too, there were decorations everywhere in honor of the upcoming holidays, and they were pretty spectacular too.

And afterwards a small group of us (about fifteen people, all family) gathered at my hubby's other aunt's home, to visit and celebrate the holiday together a bit.  I was really looking forward to the trip, but then our little one got sick just prior to the event, so I thought I was going to miss it.  I was fine with that, I'd rather not risk exacerbating an illness, or spreading it to others, so I was prepared to stay home with no worries, and was encouraging hubby to go anyway. It turned out okay though, because our son got better a couple of days before and we thought (well, hubby moreso than me, and he turned out to be right) it was okay for all of us to go.

It ended up being a nice trip, something new and unusual to do, and it was fun.

So my question to you is, do you Cirque (attend the performances regularly when they are in town)? Or have you ever been one of the shows?  If so, what did you think?

I have heard of them, but never have seen them. I'm sure the performance was fantastic.

So glad you all could go, in the end!!!

We've been to one performance and it was great! So much time and effort must go into each act - everything seems so flawless. Definitely a fun night out!

I'm so glad your whole family had a blast! The first Cirque we saw was OVO and we absolutely loved it. The second we went to was super weird and we even walked out. I'm hoping we'll find another to enjoy soon :)

I bet it was so much fun! I've always wanted to go! They came here before, but we didn't have the same time off to go. We have one show on DVD.

You know, I have never seen a Cirque performance and honestly, I've never had any interest in seeing one. I was given free tickets once, but I passed.

We did go to see the circus. It was very interesting, but it was um Barnes and something...not the cirque de soleil

Are they the same?

Anyway, glad you had such a wonderful time!

And tell the hubs that they practice taking those clothes off forever until they got it down!

I so want to go to a Cirque show! I've been hinting on to hubby about driving into Chicago sometime to see one. I think I am going to have to settle for the new movie that's coming out soon though.

I just read about that in the WSJ yesterday. The gal said she's been doing it forever and it was just ho hum, but the movie's renewed her passion for it. The acrobatics they do is amazing, and I couldn't help but wonder how many times they've gotten hurt in practice.

They had that clothing change down to seconds, it was crazy fast!

I haven't seen Barnum and Bailey (that's the one?) but I don't think they're the same. This is an acrobatics show w/music and dancing, but no animals. I've never been to a real circus.
