When my two oldest boys were little, their uncles hooked them up with cards (you know, the collectible cards that came in bubble gum, or in a package on their own, sold in the candy aisle) attached to each spoke of the back wheel on their bikes.  I thought they were crazy, but the boys LOVED them.  They made the bikes sound like they had a motor sound when they peddled.  They were neat, because the boys liked them so much (and because the uncles were so cool to do it).  Now there's something even cooler on the market (though not as cool as the uncles, we're keeping them ;) ).
