Christmas Music (31 Days Left)

Today, or tonight rather, since we ended up getting so busy over here, I'm continuing along with my desire to post a holiday song each day.

For me, Christmas just wouldn't be Christmas without "The Christmas Song," an old Nat King Cole classic.  This song always takes me way back to watching my grandmother stack her 33 LP records on her phonograph player (and sometimes she'd break out her thick, 78s s too...Does anyone else remember those?  I wonder what happened to those records).  She loved the holidays, loved family being together, and enjoyed most any type of music...and oh how her and my grandfather both loved Nat King Cole.

The video pictures that go with this are nice too...very homey, happy, and Christmas-y.

And then because I've never heard it live, I'm posting the same song, same singer, live.  :)

I love playing Christmas music during the Holidays. It reminds me of how mom and dad use to put on old records and dance around the house when I was growing up.

  3. It's not Christmas until I've heard The Christmas Song.....and Dominic the Donkey. Thankfully I've heard both so far this year, so I can carry on with the Christmas season :)

    1. Of course I have to got You Tube it now, because I have never heard of Dominic the Donkey....must be focused (that's a reminder to myself not to get sucked in... I start w/one song and end up listening to 20). :)

  4. Me-loves this song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Too!!!!!!!!

Of course I remember all sizes of phonograph records! Wonder what happened to her's? If you had them, you could make money, from collectors! :-)

We have a bunch of the large ones, and I got my husband an old fashioned phonograph player one Christmas, so he can play them. :-) It's a new-made-but-old-fashioned one, of course. "The Vermont Country Store" site has such where-are-they-now? items. :-)

This year, I'm giving him a gizmo, to view old slides, which we found packed away here. Sushhhhh... Don't tell him, though. It can't be opened until Christmas. :-)))))

    1. I'm in the process of converting old VHS tapes for my oldest who is now married and has taken an interest in such things... but wow what a job. I don't mind upgrading technology, but I wish they'd make it easier in some cases.

As for the records, there was something about getting a new album, reading it front and back, learning the songs... You can't do that w/an iPod and I'm always worried I'm going to lose my songs.

  5. You are so right! Christmas won't be Christmas without this beautiful song. I have a CD of Christmas music and this song is on it (a different version) when I am wrapping presents and decorating it's always on. It's beautiful and gets you in that wonderful holiday mood. :)
