What's Your Quirk?

Everyone has a quirk...something they do that is a little unusual, and to outsiders might be viewed as odd.

My husband has a thing for lightning.  Even if we're in a car, he'll jump and blurt out "Whoa," while frantically looking for the closest place to find cover, if we're too close to anything even close to resembling a big white bolt.  We've been married a long time, and it still makes me laugh, every single time.

My children (from the oldest to the youngest) all have quirks, and to me they're endearing, but to others...well, maybe they're not.

For me, using Febreze to Go in public restrooms is my quirk.  Weird, I know.  That's why it's called a quirk.  But I don't go anywhere without it.  I do all of the other preliminary things you have to do in a public restroom to stay safe from germs, but first I spray that spray.  The second I walk in the stall.  And if no one else is in the bathroom, I'll spray a little spritz of it in the air while I'm walking TO the stall, lol.  Trust me, it freshens the air... I just love it.

This summer my daughter (13) and toddler had to squeeze into a stall with me at the amusement park, because it was too crowded to wait, or whatever (hey, stuff like that happens when you're a mom).  Both of the kids went a little nuts when I sprayed the spray, like it was the most outrageous, weirdest thing they'd ever seen in their lives (and they weren't quiet about it).  When I flushed w/my foot it was just too much for them to bear, and the peals of laughter began.  My toddler has long since gotten over it, but my daughter still brings it up from time-to-time.

That's okay though, I know she loves me; quirks and all.

So, I've shared mine.  Your turn to share, if you want to.  What's your quirk?

  2. well, my one of my quirks, which i can't imagine everyone doesn't do . . . i think most just don't like to admit to and i'd say i may be extreme, but it is talk to myself. i literally have to try to force myself to not talk out loud when i am in the grocery store by myself. and at home i just blab away, mostly things like "i wonder where that is?" or "oh, that looks nice" etc.

    1. Oh my gosh, have you ever caught yourself talking out loud to yourself, without even knowing you were talking out loud to yourself? I TOTALLY have done that before, lolol.

  3. Let me see, I will often look for, fix, and follow patterns. For example, if you have two green markers, three red markers, and two blue markers, I will line them up as follows: red, green, blue, red, blue, green, red. It is pretty much in everything I look at, from how I walk down the hall to how I eat my food. To some, this would seem like the quirk, but some it is just how their minds work. The quirky thing about me - I can turn this off at will. It is strong enough to influence everything I do, unless I decide it is in my way. At that point, I simply, stop, paying any attention to the patterns. It really throws people off.

  5. I have to grind the pepper in multiples of 5. I can't do 14 grinds, I have to do 15! I can't do 19, I have to do 20. My husband is trying to tell me "whoa, enough" but if it isn't near a multiple of 5..... it's never enough.

  6. I refuse to buy vegetables wrapped in plastic and the toilet paper has to be put on the holder the correct way, which is my way of course.

  7. I love that quirk!!! I'm going to start doing it! I cringe when I walk into a public restroom. The anxiety hits and I'm that mom who is overbearing and pleads with her kids not to touch ANYTHING!! My daughter sat on the floor in a public restroom yesterday... I almost started crying. LOL!!!

    1. Bwuahahahahahahah, totally relating. I almost get anxiety when my toddler touches anything in the public restroom. He just looks at me like, 'why can't I touch anything?' lol

  8. I have too many. I have to clear out my inbox, which is impossible, because things are pending. It can drive me crazy thinking about it. I have to have things in place and no clutter, or I can't think. My husband has to give me a kiss when either of us leaves, otherwise our luck will be bad.

  9. What a funny idea. I usually just hold my breath of mouth breathe the whole time I'm in a public restroom. I just might have to adopt this quirky idea. It's a good one!

  12. Quirks. I have a few of those: I wash my hands everytime I touch a new food in the kitchen. Picture me making a spanish omelette - wash hands, chop onions, wash hands, chop tomatoes, wash hands, break eggs, wash hands, sprinkle salt on eggs, wash hands... and on and on and on!

  13. I have several... Right off the top of my head... my biggest one is that I can't read something without proofreading it. It's a blessing and a curse. Typos literally drive me nuts! :) Another one is that I have to eat everything on my plate in proportion. I keep them all even, taking a bite of each food one at a time, until it's all gone. It drives me crazy when my husband reaches over and digs a big bite out... ESPECIALLY on my dessert! :) I have so many more! Yes, I am definitely quirky.

    1. My daughter eats only one food at a time. It makes me laugh. Hubby was in the military and I guess they mushed all of their food together to make it taste better, and he is still prone to doing that... which makes me shudder. ;)
