Last night my two youngest and I went to see Ice Age: Continental Drift at the movies. While my almost-five-year-old likes to go to the movies, he usually gets antsy half way through one, and wants to 'get a drink of water,' 'go to the bathroom,' get up and walk around in the aisle we're sitting in, or at the very least change his seat. In short, he gets restless if the movie lasts too long.
Ice Age was different, hurrah! Our little guy sat and watched the movie from start to finish. The bright animation, talking animals, and storyline just had him mesmerized beginning to end. My daughter, who is thirteen, liked it, and so did I! It's my favorite of the series so far. If you haven't seen it, it's relatively short (1 hr. 27 min), pretty entertaining, and offered in traditional and 3D versions. To make the deal even sweeter, you could go early in the day, as many theaters offer deep discounts on tickets purchased for shows that start before a certain time (4:00 pm in our hometown). We always order the kid's popcorn meals too...saves us a bundle and it's just the right amount of snack.
Just a heads up, if you go see this movie, you're probably going to recognize a voice or ten...as the characters are all voiced by the celebrity crowd. I recognized Queen Latifah, Dennis Leary, Ray Romano and Jennifer Lopez, and at the end of the movie they showed who was voicing who, and my daughter recognized a ton of people, including Drake and Nicki Minaj
Once our movie was done, we had to wait around a bit for my 19-yr old and our out-of-town guest who went to see a different show, so we played a little bit of air hockey. We don't do movie nights all that often so when we do, we always seem to have a good time.
Here's a trailer (courtesy of the Fandango website) to Ice Age, in case you haven't seen it yet. I highly recommend this movie with a big two thumbs up!
