Hot Air Jubilee

Each year a town not too far away from us has a Hot Air Jubilee celebration that we never miss.  There is a mass launching of balloons very early in the morning, late in the afternoon, and they have a balloon glow at night.  We make the trek out every year, at least two of the three days that they are in town, and we have a blast watching the hot air balloons inflate and rise into the sky.

They say that when you're in the air, you are moving with the airflow, so you can't feel any wind, which in turn gives you the sense that you are actually floating.  To me that sounds amazing, and while I'd love to take a flight, I'm not too awful keen on the kiddos doing it, and so each year I refrain.  That's okay though... as much as I'd like to take a balloon ride, I enjoy sitting with the kids and watching the show even more.

I'll post a few pictures for you to enjoy.  Aren't they just stunning and gorgeous?

  2. It's great. They let you come right up to the field, you can almost touch the balloons. When there are several going up at once the crowd will cheer. They have a lot of designer balloons too, like the Post Cereal bear, Humpty Dumpy, etc. It's really just the neatest thing.

  5. We attend a local hot air balloon festival here too. It's so beautiful to see the sunrise shining through the balloons. I've never been brave enough to ride in one but I've always wanted to. Thanks for sharing!

  7. What a fun outing! I wouldn't miss that either! We had the opportunity to do a tether ride last summer. While not exactly the same thing as being up in a balloon, my two older kids and I got a good sense of what it would be like. It was awesome Feeling the balloon billowing out above you. My then 2 year cried because she thought I was going away. I love hot air balloons, there's something magical about them.

  9. They really are beautiful! And I don't know if I'd be ready to let my kids go up in a balloon yet either, unless of course I was controlling it :) Very, very cool thing to watch and experience though.

  11. I've heard about this balloon excitement. I want to see it one day. It reminds me of the movie tangled :)

Oh and to get a ride would be just awesome and daring! I prefer terra firma but I wouldn't pass up such an experience! :)
